Mark Barlow Madden, 75, of Cranbury passed away surrounded by his loving family after a long illness and a gallant fight with Pulmonary Fibrosis on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Born in Trenton, he was raised on the family farm in Cranbury.
Mark was a graduate of the Cranbury Elementary School and spent time with his family and friends in Cranbury. An avid sportsman, he played baseball and loved fishing, hunting and being in the outdoors. He was also very involved in horse racing in his younger years. He was known as a man of “many hats”. He was a graduate of Hightstown High School Class of 1959 and a graduate of Trenton State College Class of 1963 now The College of New Jersey. He worked for the Jamesburg Board of Education serving as both a Teacher and Guidance Counselor. He served most of his career at the Grace M Breckwedel Middle School where he also served as Athletic Director and Coach and at his retirement had the soccer field dedicated in his name. He was a member of NJEA and the NEA.
Son of the late William E. and Kathryn Barlow Madden, he is survived by his wife, Josephine Madden, daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and her husband Brett , son and daughter-in-law, Mark W. and his wife Shelby, he is also survived by many cousins.
Calling hours will be held 5pm to 8pm Friday, May 27 at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, 10:30am Saturday, May 28 at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, 251 Franklin Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Burial will follow at Brainerd Cemetery, Cranbury. In lieu of flowers donations in Mark’s memory may be made to the Jamesburg Board of Education, 13 Augusta Street, Jamesburg, NJ 08831, where they will be used toward the Grace M Breckwedel Middle School Athletic Department.
