Obituary for Warren E Moore

Warren E. Moore, Educator, husband of the late Jean Powlesland Moore, died at his residence in Hightstown, on Sunday, June 26, 2016. He was the only child of Leo and Ruth Boyce Moore born on March 3, 1927, in Syracuse. He was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy, received his bachelor of arts from Hamilton College (1949) and master of arts in Education from Syracuse University (1952). Warren's career as an educator began as a teacher in Middletown, N.Y., and then serving the Onondaga Central School District as high school principal from 1953 to 1959, and then as superintendent of schools until 1975. He retired from the New York State Education Department in 1991 as a programs administrator. During his career, he was active in the New York State Secondary School Principals Association and the American Association of School Administrators. He also served as a trustee of the Public Broadcasting Council of Central New York, WCNY on their School Program Committee from 1971 to 1975. He was active with the Presbyterian Churches in Goshen (First Presbyterian), Syracuse (Onondaga Valley), and Guilderland (Hamilton Union), as an ordained Elder and Deacon and an active member in Hightstown (First Presbyterian) and Cranbury (First Presbyterian), N.J. Surviving are his sons, Bradley (Carol), Kennesaw, Ga., Gregory, Verona, N.J., and Douglas, Ringoes, N.J. and his sons Tyler, Connor and Logan. His son, Philip predeceased him in 2003. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, July 9, at South Valley Presbyterian Church located at Atonement Lutheran Church, 116 West Glen Ave., Syracuse, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Thanksgiving and Memorial Fund, Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, 2291 Western Ave., Guilderland, NY 12084. Greenleaf Funeral Home Inc., 503 West Onondaga Street in Syracuse has charge of arrangments.
